Opacity with dds files (Help)

I don't care if you think I'm a dumbass and stuff like that. Be gentle, not very good with photoshop.

Ok, I've got a .dds file I've edited in photoshop (I do have the dds file extension thingy).

When the picture is up, I double click on the layer in the bottom right corner and a menu pops up where I can edit the opacity. I put the opacity to 80% then save it, (Still as a dds file) but when I open the file back up, it i now back to its original state, still at 100% opacity. (Run-on sentence lol)

Any helpzors?
