Do I make a character for normal/factions/nightfall or does my character go on as i proceed in the game?

It's faction is different.

I suggest starting with Prophecies if you want a nice storyline.

You can go across campaigns.
Prophecies is the longest.
Nightfall is pretty easy.
And I could never be fucked to finish Factions, was too busy with other stuff.
