What, you think that's high? The GTX260 was priced at $400 when it was released and this twice as powerful, even with it's immature drivers. Let's not forget about a few years back when the 8800 Ultra started at $800.

It is cheaper than what it used to be high-end cards just comes out, but it's still expensive.

Drop down to like sub-200 and I'll take 2. Very Happy

Are there any benchmarks of the HD5850/70?

And how big is that card? Comparable to a HD4850?

There isn't a 5890.. There probebly wont be either.
Its going to be a 5970 or somthing, (its somthing between 5850 and 5870 BUT with dual cores).

Would you guys recommend a ATI card or a nVidia card?

I'm planning to get all the parts to build a computer by next August, and I'm gonna start looking out for good deals now.

As of right now Knite, choose ATI. Im also building my self a new computer and i want one of these in my comps. Is their a huge loss in performance from the 5850 to the 5870?

they append x2 to their dual core models.

9 would likely be a refresh model

Give the 5890 a few months. As with the 4890, the point was to improve of the X870's architecture a bit then overclock the core clock/memory/etc.

The next cards that'll be released will be the HD5850 and HD587X2 in a short while and a few months respectively.

Collect the money then get the parts. Getting parts over a long period of time will only lead to wasted money considering how fast the PC market evolves. Between now and next August we'll see the release of a few more i7/i5 CPUs and, as with any new tech, price drops.
