I used to be connected to tha internetz by cable, but know I am on wireless and I noticed that it's a lot slower. Is this normal?

Disable your wireless firewall.

Don't listen to him he is stupid,
Wireless G has a theoretical limit of 54Mbps (Megabits)
while wireless N has a theoretical limit of 360 Mbps, while a cable has a limit of 1000 Mbps (Cat 5E/6 RJ45/ETHERNET). Wireless is much slower than a wired connection.
If you want more speed, get back to wired. If you want freedom go with wireless!

If he were getting the theoretical limit of 54mbps, he wouldn't be complaining about it being slow.
It could be a number of issues, ranging from the router to the wireless card (wireless modem), to interference blocking the signal (this isn't likely unless you live in a microwave).

54 mbits is a lot of speed... that's almost 6 megabytes/s.
check your wireless signal, my wireless upstairs hauls a surprising amount of ass.

But you have to think about also packet loss do to interference to things also while wired doesn't have alot of that nor overhead. Wired will ALWAYS be better and faster than wireless.

Totally Agree...
Try getting closer to your modem/router, that might slightly improve wireless signal.

I routinely drop 2mb/s+ over my wireless.
Obviously it's faster, but wireless is fine if you have a decent signal / adapter.

Well, I got a cable now so I guess this can be locked now.

| While wireless G has a theoretical limit of 54mbps, it's actually about half that in practice. Then when you add in factors such as slowdown from having to encrypt packets, interference, distance from the router, objects blocking the router etc. it's easy to see how you might only get a quarter of that 54mbps, if that, which is slower than a lot of peoples connections.
