Hi guys,

When 7 is released, I am planning to [torrent] (sorry mod) it. With the 7 loader. I am planning to install it using the "upgrade" option shown when you insert your disk in. However, I i would like to revert my OS back to Windows Vista ( cos my mum might scold me), Is there a way to do it with system restore? E.g make a restore point bef upgrade?

Thanks anyway

An options is to Install a fresh copy of the Windows 7 on a seperate partition...
Sorry I don't know/think that System Restore can restore back to Vista but I can be wrong...

You cannot downgrade back to XP via system restore.
The only time you can go back is before the very first boot up to Windows 7, after that Win7 is permanent.

Itz:
I think you meant, another option was to do a clean inst, The problem is that i do not want to take the trouble to do that. I have over 400 GB of crap (not really) on my main Vista partition. So my only choice is to upgrade. If theres no way to do it, then forget it (no offence) but i'll wait until there are more replies.

Kls & nick:
But if it wont work, why is Vista stored in Windows.old? there must be a reason. cos who would want to acess their old OS's files (eg system32 etc)

It's done that so that you can still access your old files, but the windows inside windows.old folder will not work.

Why did your mom scold at you for upgrading to Win7?

Tampering with stuff. She underestimates my computer knowledge. I am in my schoold computer elective class and in the micromouse club and she still doesnt trust me to do stuff woth the comp. So... no system restore huh. Maybe my mum would (fall in love) with Win7 and keep it.

You cant downgrade although you can zip the files in a way that they stay as "Old Windows" than install the old OS and get them from the folder. I actually dual booted Vista/Win7 after about 30mins of playing with Win7 I deleted Vista portion. I dont know how you can even think about switching Win7 for Vista...

Exactly. I been using XP for years now, Windows 7 made me switch. She will notice the difference between them and keep it.
