I am using Windows Vista Premium Edition, I would like to know how to change your IP. Thanks.... I figured this sort of had to do with programming because Vista was programmed and IDK :/

The command line trick only works for static IP addresses not running on an internet gateway... I think. Even then, your ISP might interfere.

If you have a router with a dynamic IP address and are using a PPPoE (Point-to-Point-Protocol-Over-Ethernet) line, then the router should offer an option to disconnect from the line. From there, you can reconnect. This is all assuming that you meet the requirements by using a dynamic IP address and are connected to the internet through a PPPoE line, all of which you can set in your router.

To access your router (if you have one in the first place), you can try 192.168.1.1 or another LAN IP address. Consult your router's manual for the specific IP.

reseting your router might work but the easist way is to use a proxy liek hotspot.

Not sure if this is a rumor, but

I heard that if you switch your modem off for a few days and then turn it back on, your IP will switch.

Also, why doesn't "ipconfig" work on CMD prompt? Confused Or does it just not work for Vista?

EDIT: My bad. The lease period is for the DHCP server. Completely ignore it.

Heres some steps:
1. Get to a command prompt. (START, run, cmd).
2. Type "ipconfig /release" (without the quotes).
3. Shut down computer.
4. Turn off computer.
5. Turn off all ethernet hubs/switches.
6. Turn off cable/DSL modem.
7. Leave off overnight.
8. Turn everything back on.

Else with a router:
1. Log into the router's admin console.
2. Release the IP address. (Method varies by router manufacturer)
3. Turn off router, ethernet hubs/switches, and the cable/DSL modem.
4. Leave off overnight.
5. Turn everything back on.

Code:
Taken from whatismyipaddress

How does it fuck up the internet? If you release the ip you have to renew it. Tho as said before it only work if you have dynamic ips.

if you have static ip the closest you can get is too get a proxy. You can write a program tho that connects to a proxy/vpn and changes ip in periods at certain events.

Turn off your modem for more than 24 hours. This does work.

It depends which IP you are trying to change, your local IP or your public IP. Your local IP address is what your router uses to identify your computer. You can easily change that by doing a couple things. The easiest would be going to the command prompt and doing an IP renew. The easiest way is to go to your network connection status window>support tab and click repair. Another way would be to go to your Network Connections page (in control panel) and right-click your connection and go to properties>internet protocol (TCP/IP)>Properties and click use following IP address. That is a semi-complicacted process to explain, and I won't bother since I am guessing you are trying to change your public IP anyway, since your local IP is most likely dynamic and changes every time you connect to the router (after any disconnection such as turning off your computer or repairing your connection as I stated above). To change your public IP (the IP that websites see you as) I am sorry to say you will have to contact your ISP.
