When I ask the question in the title, I am talking about that feeling when you aren't actually needing something, physically or mentally, but because of things like taste, you like it enough to continuously interact with it? For example, and this is the root of this thread, I love Monster Energy Drink, but I'm not addicted. However, due to the taste factor and its refreshing rush of energy, I drink at least one almost every day, and often try to get money for it ahead of time if I don't have enough on me to buy one. I do not feel addicted in any way, and am secure in the knowledge that I can stop any time I want to, but I simply don't want to.

What are your views/opinions on my personal case/the topic in general?

Wow, if this was a REAL drug... I would be 100 percent sure you are addicted to it.

Addicts do not know they are addicted. (Check 1 for you)
Addicts are in denial of their addiction. (check 2)
Addicts say they can stop. (check 3)
Addicts use the excuse "they just don't want to" (check 4)

You may be a caffeine addict! I am almost sure of it.

Nope, because:

When I haven't had any caffeine for upwards of 24 hours, I don't feel tired or sluggish, which would lead me to believe that I need more caffeine.
I am saying that I can quit at any time because, quite honestly, I can. I could stop right now for weeks on end, and may have to, because my school just recently banned energy drinks and I CBFed to buy them outside of my lunch hour.
I'm not in denial, I'm wondering if I am, read the OP.
I never said "I just don't want to", I said I enjoy it.

have you tried not having monster for a week? and if it's "voluntary", it's not an addiction, it totally contradicts what addiction means.

If you can stop, you're not addicted.
If you can't, you're addicted.

Until you try to stop, you won't know. Crackheads say they can quit crack, they just don't want to. (Not that I'm comparing energy drinks to crack.)

I totally agree with this common sense statement.

Actually some addicts know they are addicted to drugs, but they cant stop it even if they try to stop.

Well if you've gone for a week, there would be withdraws if you were addicted. (witch have a variety of effects on the body some of which are extremely funny.)

But all in all I don't think you're addicted. Very Happy
