Depends what generation.
2nd generation upsides are, obviously, free apps.
Downside is you have to do something with the ipod on the computer everytime you turn off the ipod and turn it back on.

But if I download the apps and then turn off my ipod and turn it back on will my apps still work?

| only real downside is that if you jailbreak and something happens to your ipod, apple wont fix it.

thats what you think. Everything you do leaves a trace so even after a restore apple can still find out if you tried to jailbreak or not
