well here is what the qustions says:

Bob, Brian and Sean went on a trip to Toronto and deiced to stay in a hotel for the night.
each hotel room costs $10 each
Bob pays $10 for the room
Sean pays $10 for the room
Brian pays $10 for the room
when they add up all there money, they get $30
and hands the money to the Clerc and the Clerc says "there is a $5 disscount from the $30 for one room"
so the Clerc gives you $5
and you split it and bob gets $1 sean gets $1 and brian gets $1 and the rest of the $2 goes to charity
they add it up then it only equaled to $29 where is the misssing dollar?

and as you can see they payed $9 each so 9 + 9 + 9 + 2 = 29
cuz just take five break it up so it can be even.

| That's not how it works, because they're getting the money back, you don't subtract the dollar from each of them. It's still there.

Did you even ask a question?
(10+10+10) - 5 = 25
Then if you wanted to give back the dollar...
(10-1)+(10-1)+(10-1)-2 = 25
10 dollars subtracted by the 1 they got back subtracted by the charity equals how much they payed for the room.
They each payed ten dollars, they got 5 dollars back...

OMG, Homework isnt allowed in this section. also, its 5 Dollars because
you dont subract the $ for them each.

Each man has put in $9 towards the cost of the room: 3 x $9 = $27.
The clerc has kept $2 from what the men spent for himself: $27 - $2 = $25.

Exactly, it doesnt make sense because its 25+4= 29, not 30.

10+10+10-5 = 30 - 5
25=25.
That 5 dollars is:
2 to charity
1 to each of them.
2+1+1+1 = 5. 5 + 25 = 30.
