If you've heard the statistic, rap/rnb/hiphop targets kids,teens,young adults and a few older ones. Not everyone like it, but not everyone hates it. Also, this is like the saying "Common sense ain't so common anymore"

People, who don't listen to either, judge the styles of music based on a first-glance kind of thing. Same reason why people think rock = metal = scream-o.

Most of today's music suck! Their lyrics has no emotional meaning to it that will move the listener or the song itself.
It's all about sex, money, drugs, boy/girl friend cheating, and other bullshits.
e.g. Rihanna -Take a Bow (good music, but crappy lyrics)
Mariah Carey- Through the rain (good music with strong emotional lyrics)
-Touch my body (crappy lyrics, all about relationships, which is almost all songs are these days).
It seems they all ran out of ideas.

My point still stands... the aritist you mentioned according to wikipedia is from a band called "System of a Down" which started in 1994.
Since he was from that era, then I don't think his lyrics will be crappy like the "new" artist of today.
Of course I can't say all are bad, it's be corrected as almost all aritist are bad these days.
