|
|
| I went in my attic on the weekend and its very hard to get into with a small opening and I had to use a latter, when I went in the attic had this dark Grey almost black fluffy type material all over the place. My house was built in 1960.

Maybe it's just dust?
Anyway from what I've heard (don't if it's correct), as long as you don't touch it or make it air borne then you should be alright.

If there really is asbestos, you need to get a specialist.
If its dust you could see the difference. Asbestos is like more like saw
dust.
It could cause mesothelioma so get professional help.

| I'd hire a specialist to just check on it.

Well, I just remembered...
That probably isnt asbestos because they didnt make houses with
asbestos in 1960. Plus, the government requires asbestos specialists to
check asbestos levels in houses every 10-15 yrs depending on where you
live.

| If it was made in the 60's, and is of the consistency you mentioned, it's most likely fiberglass. Be careful though, as old fiberglass contains formaldehyde and lots of other bad stuff. If you plan to be around it make sure to wear a proper filtered mask(not one of those cheap white foam ones), gloves, and take a cold shower afterwards. If you take a warm shower, it will open your pores and make you itchier than you can imagine.
