NOTE: This is a personal theory, and I do not claim it to be true, in whole or in part. While I hope it comes true, anything is possible and this is not guaranteed to happen in the future.
Everybody has an appendix, but nobody seems to think they need it. Scientists can't find a consistent function, vital or otherwise, that would explain its existence. The odd person has it get inflamed, and if not removed surgically, it raises many medical problems. In hindsight, it looks like a useless organ that shouldn't even be there. This is where my theory comes in. I think that, given time, scientists will find a way to alter it using genetic machinery not yet invented. Once they crack the DNA code completely, and find a way to write it as simply as JavaScript or C++, they will find ways to turn the appendix into a re-writable genetic memory storage. Different things could be achieved, like sped up healing, faster and more in-depth muscle control, and more. As for the inflammation and the other medical problems sometimes developed, I think this will stop because the problems are a side effect from lack of use.
Please comment, post ideas, continue my theory in your own ways, and more.

This is possible. It could also be used to store excess memories that would otherwise be forgotten. My theory is: It never had a use, and there haven't been any problems living without one, but what if we are supposed to MAKE a use out of it? We built our own civilizations, we brought technology this far, why shouldn't we eventually adapt OURSELVES as well as our lifestyles and capabilities?

The only problem with a second heart is the fact that they'd have to attach artificial valves, but other then that, it's possible.

No idea, with the current economy and everything going on spiraling around it. I don't think people have even started thinking about this possibility. I may study human genetics and try and do it myself when I come of age.
