I have 2gb of RAM on my computer.
When my computer has fully started up it uses 1.1gb.

When I load up a few applications like:
-Firefox
-iTunes
-Windows Live Messenger
-Photoshop CS4
My RAM usage gets about to 1.8gb

Then my computers starts getting glitchy.
Everything gets slow.
I will unminimize Firefox and it takes 20seconds to load up.

Is this a problem with my computer (like a virus?) or do I just need to make a RAM upgrade?

It also depends what your processor is, RAM wont determine everything

Well Photoshop CS4 does take alot of memory, and running Itunes, mozilla, all those things are well supposed to take atleast 1gb up

I think its normal for it to do this

Damn, that's a lot of memory for just the operating system, never realized that. DDR2 memory is cheap, if you're using a lot of your memory as it is, you should probably make an upgrade.

The 1.1gb is not all for the OS. It also includes all my autorun programs.

Also, does it spike at 1.1, or is that what it is with everything running? I'd consider it heavy usage, but I don't know Vista's normal overhead. (XP x64 used in my case.)

Vista uses like 800 mb standard. If you got 2 gb i suggest to buy at least 1 gb
You might wanna consider if you want to get 4gb because it will only use 3,25 gb max

Although if desired, you could always switch to an OS that uses x64 architecture (either Vista or XP) and take advantage of your processor.
