This has been bugging me. I'm scanning for a value but CE's progress bar would complete before the actual scan is through. It's like it shows the progress bar filled 30 or so seconds before the list of found addresses are displayed.
This makes it hard to tell how much longer the scan will take. I would click terminate but it would not terminate. I had to use task manager to kill CE.
Any idea what is causing this? I've seen it happen with CE 5.4, 5.43, and 5.44.
If it helps, I was messing around with Mercenaries 2. I searched for floating value (challenge timer; found it but couldn't locate the pointer; i tried to noop the assembly but it crashes M2).
I also really hate the 'zooming' affect when you're near death/dead. It makes me ill. I've tried several trainers (Brewers,Psych,KelSat) and everyone of them retains this effect for their unlimited health option.
I tried another memory scanner (artmoney) and it shows progress bar fine but it's much slower than CE (but more stable?). I would try tsearch but i think it's too old for my system (vista x64).
Thanks.

Did you do an unknown initial value scan as first scan ? If so, if it's a big process it might still be busy writing the undo information to disk
try reinstalling ce to c:\yupdidoo
also, you say you tried ce 5.4.4 , did it give a message after the 2nd time running that you don't have proper access ? (Also, 5.4.4 should have a working terminate button)

Dark Byte -- is there any way to disable undo to speed up things? i hardly ever use that feature. i found something in the 'extra' tab, 'undo changes to CE' is unchecked. but i don't think that disabled it.
anyway, funny thing happened when i tried to open 'cheat engine help' from start menu. i get a message from vista that says the help format is not supported under windows vista. i was going to look at ce help to find way to disable undo. maybe make a .chm/html version of help file for future release? (nevermind looks like microsoft has a separate download to open help file under vista -- google for KB917607)
i may have messed up the ce install by installing 5.4.0, 5.4.3, and 5.4.4. i think i need to manually clean everything out (or reinstall vista).
to answer your question, i was searching for non-zero floating point values. for merc2, i would start a challenge then wait until the timer drops to seconds (like 0:59.4). then alt-tab out to CE to search for 59. when it finishes, alt-tab back to merc2. then repeat until there's only one address left. each time i search, the progress bar would complete long before it shows the found addresses.
i've tried initial search for 0 or unknown value and it would show the progress bar full but never comes back from the scanning.
does ce multithread well? i have quad core processor (2.4ghz each core) with 8gb ram. i would think ce would run without problem. if not, it would be great if ce would 'fork' when it does it scanning to reduce scan time. make a bunch of parallel tasks running on multiple cores to speed things up. or a x64 native version of ce would be nice.

the undo save is also used for the "Same as first scan" scan. But I'll see if I can add a option to disable and skip it
Currently working on a chm version
There can't go much wrong with the ce install. And if you install to separate folders you can still use each version separately.
And yes, on ce 5.4.3+ multithreading isn't a problem (the original 5.4 has a problem with 3+ cores where it splits up workloads incorrect and gives the 3th and 4th core garbage to scan, but fixed in 5.4.3) it makes use of all the cpu cores when scanning

OMG! Vista warned me that i'm running low on diskspace on my c: drive. I wonder why one day i have many gigs left free on c: drive and another i have only 100 mb left?
I found out why. I looked in the 'cheat engine' install folder and found 17 .tmp file totalling 12.8 GB! I guess when i killed CE using windows task manager while it was still scanning causes CE not to be able to cleanup/delete the temporary work files.
Wow.

12.8GB ? Did you do a binary scan for the value 0 ?
