Erhm... the Nuke would most likely end all life on Earth... but hey, it got Osama!

If you'd use a Nuke, the world would have a nuclear winter, or at least a huge part of the world. Killing millions, if not billions of innocent people.

^ Monkeys we have used nukes before... I think you over estimate there power...

Using a nuke on that country would not only make our allies angry at us, but we would also kill many innocent people.

Only an ignorant kid would say something as foolish as this...

And when did we last use a nuke?

I'm guessing their power has grown like HUUUUUUGE! Shocked
It's like putting a Pentium 2 against Core 2 Extreme. Any difference?

The nukes have indeed gained allot of power.
And with our current unstable atmosphere a nuclear winter will occur.

Look at Chernobyl. We still experience the effects of it. A nuke is nowadays about 50x(?) times as strong.

I'm not sure if it will be a global nuclear winter, but hitting the Mid-east will also effect Europe and Asia.

Tell me about it. Here in Finland we still have some lakes that are slightly radioactive because of it..

First of all, a "nuclear winter" is only a hypothetical idea. It's not caused by the bomb itself, but by the fires it creates (burning building, forests, etc) And it won't happen by blowing up 1 bomb!

Chernobyl =/= nuclear bomb. You can't compare them.

And wtf do you mean by stronger? Stronger yield, a bigger fallout or what?

Bigger bang, bigger fallout, larger damage, MORE damage to the nature.
Ultimately, one country launches a nuclear attack on another country.. it would start a nuclear war. That would destroy us by destroying the atmosphere entirely.

As Einstein (I believe) said, 3rd World War would send us back to using sticks and rocks. (if we would even survive it...)

UnLmtD, localhost: Stronger as in higher atoms being split at a better energy rate.
=> Bigger radius, Stronger epicentre => harder fallout.

And you won't destroy the atmosphere, tofuli :s It will just be clouded with dust for several years/decades/centuries.
Nuclear winter is an effect of the bomb. Indirect or Direct, it doesn't matter. The thing is that it will happen.

Maybe 1 bomb will not cause a nuclear winter for the whole world(and considering the barren grounds in Irak neither there), but the radiation will certainly effect us all.
Our groundwatter will be poluted.
Our fuel (why do you think they're still in Irak?) will be wortheless. (It will burn, miles deep under ground aswell)

Anyway you look at it: It would be a majorly stupid thing to do.

The explosion and the chain reaction caused by the collision of a neutron into a Uranium 234 or Plutonium 235 will create a large "nuclear explosion".

Winds can carry the radiation into neighboring countries, like Pakistan. In total, it wouldn't be a very good idea.
