The effects:
So basically, this happens when you remove fonts from the fonts system and some registry keys get corrupted. I used ZoneAlarm and some Windows XP dialogs which shows the bold fonts. You can see the
difference on the second pic: the top is BOLD and the bottom is not.
The very top images show zonealarm security alerts. They are bold. This is how a normal alert looks like:
The first time I've got this bug, I decided to live through it and then I couldn't take it any longer, I had to format.
The second time I got it, this happened after I moved my fonts from the fonts folder; which was a fix that was meant to make the computer load faster where Windows would restore its original fonts back after ALL the fonts were moved from the folder by the user. So I knew it HAD to do something with the fonts.
I sat and researched for a long time, pulling my hair out as I tried to resolve this, but I read up a solution that worked for me.
There is a registry key called
Code: | HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\FontSubstitutes |
Inside it, you should see some fonts. You need to change the value of Tms Rmn key so that it says MS Serif.
Also make sure that the value of key Helv says MS Sans Serif.
This should fix the problem.
