Vista is made for secure, so it has alot of stuff that you dont need.

2.2ghz p4
512mb ram
9600xt

Hard drive space and RAM are 2 totally different things.
To run vista well:
-3GHz+ single core CPU
-2.2GHz+ dual core+ CPU
-2-4GBs of RAM
-Like 5 gigs of HDD space for the OS itself, but that's not a problem these days.
-Decent graphics card. I'd imagine a 7600GT or better graphics card would run vista with all it's fancy graphics and shit, but if you have on-board graphics (which 90% of all pre-built computers now-days have) you probably won't be able to run it without turning the fancy effects off.
-Oh, and a functional DVD drive to install Vista.
If you have XP right now, stick with it. It's generally much less of a pain in the ass than Vista. The only good thing about Vista is that even viruses have compatibility problems.
