Yeah they seem to last for ever, lol! Had an old DVD-RW which I recently got rid off, but it must had burnt almost 1k of DVD's, and was still making a strong image
Optiarc drivers seem good at the moment too, along with TSST (toshiba & samsung storage tech), just make sure you get the SATA variants if your PC will do it. What a performance increase and price saving over the old PATA sort

Did you install the (correct?) driver for it then?
If not, that could be doing it.
Also check in your system devices and see if windows is even recognizing it, or is recognizing it correctly.

You don't install drivers for a flippin' optical drive genius! Not in 2000/XP/Vista anyway thats for sure.
I think it might have just been on its last legs and then a reformat reinstall etc was its last breath

Just to correct you on one thing, there's no performance increase on SATA DVD burners, it's just for a thinner cable and so they can get rid of the legacy port on motherboards.

No, there is a performance increase on sata driver, most definately.
Getting away from the restrictive PATA interface is a great step.
Data buffers more quickly and you notice a big difference if you would go to burn a dual-layer DVD or DVD-Ram disc
