Linux will support windows apps, you just need a program called Wine to run them.
XP is nice just for everyday use since you don't have to do much.
Linux you have to do more work for, but you can make it appear how ever you want.
Then again, what distro of linux are we talking about? (i.e. Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Fedora, Red Hat, KDE, Gentoo, Slackerware, etc.)

Well, once you get Linux working after your first few days, the rest is easy. I'll admit I did get confused when I first started using Ubuntu, but it's actually a LOT more user-friendly than other Distributions. The smart thing to do is to get XP first, then create a second partition with the EXT3 partition type. Then you put Linux on that partition, boot up the LiveCD again, and you can type in a certain code to enable the Bootloader to switch to either XP or Linux on system bootup.

install linux Ubuntu which will automatically install the GRUB menu. then install XP, now every time you start your computer, you can choose between Ubuntu or XP, worked for me anyways

lol, Linux isn't XP, read the posts above, you have to configure everything almost manually. But once you get it all running it's amazing

| Asus is a manufacturer of the cards that contain NVIDIA chips. Look on the Asus site for drivers.

Ask around on an Ubuntu forum and ask them how to use a Windows XP driver for Ubuntu. I know you can, its only slightly illegal (due to some really stupid law or something), and they would be able to tell you.
I would tell you if I knew how to though, because I am going to need to know for when I install Debian, Slackerware, Linspire, or Gentoo onto my laptop.
