The only reason she's getting one is because of the epic graphics. She is probably a dumbshit going like, "OOOH PRETTIZ COLOURZ!!!!! ooooh bro! look how the pictures grow bigger as i move the cursor over ZEM!!!!".
Get her a good PC, and there are four programs that will make your comp appear exactly like a Mac.

Madman got most of them. I don't think the OS is too bad, but it isn't good either.

Is it difficult to upgrade parts on a Mac? No Windows games (less than 1% are for Macs).

If she demands using a mac, have her get a windows pc and then install
Hackintosh on it.

(Make sure its an Intel processor though.)

Overpriced: This one speaks for itself. You're paying a huge premium for outdated hardware.

Proprietary: Wanna upgrade it? Too bad, most of the parts are non-standard. Just shell out another $2,000 for the next mac.

Incompatible: They don't work with the majority of the software out there.

What's the point?: All it is, is a bastardized, locked-down version of FreeBSD.

You get fucked over: OSX is upgrading constantly, which may seem like a good thing at first...except you have to dish out over $100 for each practically meaningless update, and if you don't have the newest version, don't expect new software to work.

Of course, you could build a machine for about half the price with better hardware, install Linux on it, have more options, more stability, more hardware and software support, and so on...

Point being, there is no reason for anyone to buy a Mac, ever. Any benefit you can come up with I can prove wrong.

You can't right click unless you get a $70 mouse, or configure like 1,000 settings until you can do so by holding control. And even then it still barely works.

I hate to say it, but:
XP > OSX

How much is she paying for it, anyway? You can make any computer with Linux/Windows 'slick and shiny' with a few programs and a nice case. Hell, Vista is 'slick and shiny' on it's own.

Using a mac is like trying to use windows on the most locked down windows account you could imagine.

Also FUCK no right mouse button. This needlessly complicates so many things.

I have to work on macs at college and it's a miracle if safari even manages to render google right, also checking CNN seemingly loves to cause it to completely lock up.
