Get a program called StatBar and leave it running. Watch the CPU usage, if when it freezes the usage goes up to 100%, a program you have running is causing it.

Looks like it's just gonna add to the usage, My computer runs at
3 - 6% with task manager open, browsing this forum.. Windows liva itunes
ect also open.

It'll add maybe a percent. But, when it freezes up, you can't really do ctrl+alt+del to check the usage, which is why I recommended it.
Or you could open task manager and leave it minimized, then it'll show CPU usage in the tray.

There are several common reasons for freeze-ups. Faulty components such as a piece of hardware going bad. Viruses/spyware/adware are common culprits as well. RAM conflicts (using different ram types or using a lot of RAM without the necessary disk space available) A corrupted registry or a registry that is choking due to way too many unneccesary registry keys is fairly common. In this case you'd need a good registry cleaner. Hardware drivers can cause freeze ups as well. If you've added any new hardware recently, then its possible that a driver is responsible. Make sure drivers are up to date if you have added hardware recently.
