So my friend did a defragmentation on his computer.. i dont know if its the good word in english but anyway, while he was defragging, his computer crashed and he needed to reboot, when he did all programs were lost..
can this be true? and if so, how ?

| I guess it's possible that you might get data loss during that, but NTFS is pretty good about those things. I doubt it caused any major sort of damage that was so significant it boned "all programs".

| All his pictures were deleted, desktop was cleared, ( only recycle bin was there ) And a game has lost.

Certainly possible. Data could have been being moved when it crashed, data is then just floating around somewhere. Same with a forced shut down.

start -> run -> cmd
chkdsk /r
check disk

It'll check your disk for errors/bad sectors/corrupted data, no harm will come from it.

that sounds like a reformat/reinstall more than a defrag
a new install just leaves the recycle bin on the desktop
if it crashed when defragging maybe the windows configuration was lost and it loaded the basic desktop
erm dont know if some recovery programs might find some lost pics after a defrag crash its pot luck
undelete and newer programs might find lost files, tho some will be unrecoverable unless and expert has a go
