i have a sony vaio pcv-rs410, this computer is great for regular tasks such as homework and surfing the web, but i am interested in a new video card. i plan on purchasing one tomorrow or monday. i would like some recommendations on video cards that would be congruous with my motherboard. i plan on using this for playing computer games. my last question is it worth buying a new video card if buying a new computer is out of the question?

According to http://www.dealtime.com/xPF-Sony-VAIO-Digital-Studio-PCV-RS410 you only have 3 PCI slots. It all depends on what kind of games you'd want to play.

You'd also want to upgrade your RAM >_>.

Alright, nice Very Happy.

Well, still, which types of games would you want to play? With that PC, you'll only run FPS games smoothly with low settings. I'd suggest a 128MB vid card.

the three improvements i've made to it so far are the new dvd writer after my old one 'died,' filled up the other hard drive slot with a 400gb internal hard drive, and the 1GB of ram. the last two things i would like are a a tv tuner adapter and a new video card. i don't intend on playing any FPS games or any games that you have to purchase, i plan on playing downloaded games such as Fly For Fun. thank you for the advice.

Yeah, a 128mb would be fine for MMOs like those. Check out newegg or tigerdirect, they should have a PCI vid card pretty cheap, around $30~$40.

i plan on going to Fry's electronics because it is close to my house and tends to have good prices. i was looking on their website - www.frys.com and was unable to find one with 128mb, did i miss it? smallest i saw was 256mb.

It has ONE, but it's $99. Neutral A ctrl+f on '128' helped. Very Happy

PCI Slots don't have anything to do with his Video Card, unless you want him to get a super old 32mb video card. Nowadays it's either AGP or PCI-E. And he has one AGP Slot.

I was basing his computer off of the link I posted. It didn't say AGP under expansion slots, so I thought all he had were PCI. Ah well, good for him.
