Talked with SF a bit, he told me to post here .
First off, I have a laptop which the DVD drive no longer works, and it gives the error
"Windows cannot boot because system32\hal.dll is corrupted or missing"
That's all fine and dandy, I found a tutorial on how to place XP on a flash drive/external HDD for the laptop to boot from. I followed this guide:
http://www.ngine.de/index.jsp?pageid=4176
After the WinXP files were copied to the flash drive, the comp rebooted as usual. Except now that the installation changed boot.ini on my main computer, so it would always try to boot off the flash drive.
I went into recovery console, did the following:
fixboot - created a new boot sector
del boot.ini
bootcfg /rebuild
Now the boot.ini works fine, I'm able to use XP on my main computer.
PROBLEM:
When I logged into XP after creating a new bootsector, all of my drivers reinstalled.
Now I have two of EVERYTHING.
My main problem is my onboard nic. It shows
Marvel Yukon blahbalbha #2
NVidia nForce Network Controller #2
They have #2 for some reason.
I go into Network Connections and try to manually set my IP back to what it was. It gives me this error.
"The IP address xxxxxxxxx you have entered is already assigned to adapter 'NVidia nForce Network Controller.' 'NVidia nForce Network Controller' is hidden from Network Connections because it is not physically in the computer."
Because of the 2x drivers problem. I can't do System Restore, because it was somehow disabled when creating a new bootsector. The newest restore point was after all the drivers were installed for the second time.

| Surely somewhere you have a nforce CD lurking somewhere? Install the networking drivers (but please god nothing else, unless you want trouble)

Formatting/reinstalling Windows isn't an option here >_>.
The onboard NIC works fine, except my comp thinks there's 2 of each.
Here's a pic to kind of explain what I'm talking about.
It shows Marvel Yukon PCI-E Gigabit Controller - Kaspersky & Packet Scheduler
BUT there isn't just the normal "Ethernet Controller," while #2 has all 3.
Right clicking those two and trying to uninstall them give an error saying they couldn't be uninstalled.
Here's the error I receive:
I've worked with KD5 and uninstalled/reinstalled/disabled/enabled all the drivers, and it still recognizes the ones beforehand.
