I have tried learning C++ before, and unfortunately i was not able to. I have used many online guides, tutorials, and online books. I have heard other people learn from them, i have not been able to. For some reason, i just can't grasp the concepts... Some people say that they were able to learn from actuall books they learned, and they have more bonus material that may have helped them learn the programming language. Should i ask my dad for a particular book for christmas, or is there certain guides online i just have not found. Also, if there are any books available in stores, what book (title) is best recommened.
Thank-you. Wink
(sorry for misleading title)

books are better than e-books i reckon. books for some reason i can go through easier and grasp things more. that way you can have the book open while you try something at the same time and don't have to keep minimizing windows and stuff.

Ya, ive tried one of those teach yourself C++ in 21 days and it wasn't working for me.
@fullyawesome
I totally agree, being able to actually read a formal book, which u can take anywhere, means its more accesible. Also, would suggest takeing "notes" Confused . Im a note taker when it comes to school, and it only seems logical that i should do the same Shocked
More advice is welcomed, thank-you Razz

how about trying to look up tutorials using each tool and try to create simple programs using all the tools to get familiar with C++.

Everyone learns differently and some have a harder time to grasp the basics then others do. Having knowledge in another language prior to moving into another sometimes helps with the basics and such. In your cause you are jumping straight into C++ which isn't a bad idea and many recommend it.

I personally learned from reading tutorials and such online then doing my own trial and error methods of learning how things work and so on.

Books that I would recommend.. (I have never bought a book, always used free resources.) but you seem more interested in learning from books.

- The C Programming Language, Second Edition

- C Programming: A Modern Approach

- The Standard C Library

- Teach Yourself C++

Every book has good and bad aspects and some explain some things in more depth. I recommend the above due to theres recommending them to me when I was learning C++ myself a few years back. You can probably find all the books I listed and more online (ebooks) for free (illegal and all that jazz) but thats up to you how you want to go about getting them.

Good luck.

Just go look around CEF for sources in C++. Ask the author nicely for the source and have him/her comment it a lil for you. That's the best way to learn. I learned Delphi by trial and error.

What are you trying to do on C++? Win32 programming, just the basics, etc.?
