Vsync isn't part of the OS, it's a setting in for your video card. Depending on the type of card you have, there are different ways to turn it off.

I'd assume its an Intel chip then. Not sure if you can set the vsync on it or not. I dunno where the properties for the video card are on Vista cause I do know they changed the control panel around a bit. So just look around in there and find your video card settings. Should be in the advanced settings for the desktop resolution / color depth. (Where it is on XP so I'd assume it's still there, or close.)

If anywhere, it will be in the driver settings. Why do you need it off anyway? Most games have an option to try to disable it.

Because VSYNC sucks! Horrid FPS!

I know the effect it can have on fps, which is why I mentioned that you can usually turn it off in most games, unless you have the drivers forcing it.

Actually, depending on your vid card and monitor, vsync can push out some pretty decent numbers and make the game look great. For most cards, yes, games aren't designed to run with it on and tend to kill your FPS.

The only visual difference you'll have is less "tearing". Other than that, it's a possible performance loss. Triple buffering is there to attempt to make the hit from it less.

I bet you can't even notice the difference between 60+ and 100+ frame rates. And I know why ;)

1. if it's the eyes argument: technically, your eyes can keep up with fps up to several hundred (in the dark however, it's much lower).

2. anything over your monitors refresh rate is lost data anyway.
