VB6 GDI apps can run quite a bit faster than VBsomethingnewer .NET apps which use GDI+, which lots of graphics cards can't accelerate well for (so I've read atleast).

In my experience, taking a VB6 program and compiling it under VB200x caused it to be ridiculously slower than fuck (VB200x insisted on auto-"porting" it to .NET, made the binary huge (like 10x the size), etc.).
