I been learning C++ programming in university for a few years, but I won't learn much about systems programming and stuff like that for a while....

Where in a windows system are the actual active processes? I want to be able to scan/locate a process without using a memory viewer....

check out the task register (TR)

but if you don't want to go low level, look into these api's:
openprocess
readprocessmemory
writeprocessmemory
virtualqueryex
