Cheat Engine

Hi my name is Appmaker and i am totally new to the world of hacking games and here is something else interesting, the thing is that i have a inability to use cheat engine cause i use a platform that does not support cheat engine , i was wondering if one of you masters of cheating can help me build one , all i need is info on how to hack memory. all i know is these things

1. my guess is that you find the processes starting memory address and find it's ending address

2. do a search for the value and value type that the user specifies with the many options cheat options cheat engine gives you

3. doing a rescan to see which values stayed the same and which ones changed

that is all i am capable of doing , or is that all i really need to make a engine for cheating?

You can't make a CE for Vista, because of Kernel. The best place to ask any further questions about why, I would suggest posting in the Cheat Engine section, where Dark Byte will answer you. (Since he knows alot more about it than me)

What platform are you on? I'm pretty sure there are portable debuggers & disassemblers.

I was assuming Vista. If it is; I would guess his refering more to the memory editing than anything else. (Being the main function of CE)

if hes running 64bit, should be interesting, though memory exploiting isn't out of the question, the range would be substantial, and scanning that much would be a b@#$ i bet, though i'm no expert

nah, if it's 64-bit or not doesn't make a difference to the amount of memory scanned. (ce scans only allocated memory, and there's no way a game allocates several gigabytes of ram/swapspace unless it's a really new game thats written for 64-bit, but I really doubt they exist)

I am currently working on a vista64 version (lazarus project instead of delphi, which will get a 6-bit compiler somewhere in 2009)
Also, kernel hacking in vista64 is possible, but for now you'll need a core2duo or newer intel cpu (don't have a amd system so can't make one) and be willing to boot with a floppy or cd in the drive (usb may come later)

umm.... i am not using any windows os or even pc hardware, i am using Apples Mac OS on a 32bit 400mhz machine (G4) and planning on soon getting a intel mac.

ohhh, kernel hacking on my os is pretty much impossible since the most powerful commands an functionality of some functions are blocked from use unless you go into root user mode which you have to know the password.

but memory editing is possible on my machine there is something called "The Cheat" for my os but it is not open source at least i know i can edit my system's memory.

and the kicker is i know jack squat about assembly except for some experience with the z80

well if you get an intel system u can try emulating and run it, I'd personally suggest once u get ur mac intel, just duel booting (is that even possible still?)

but i'm fairly sure since the basic processor one being risc based (tell me i didn't get that wrong) vs the intel086 base instructions set, memory allocation is setup quite a bit different isn't it?

Also with apples os, its basically a dumby proof multimedia power house, the upside being stability the downside being damn os has alot of built in "safety" nets preventing alot of code access...like the difference with windows vs linux, linux will always be more versitile at heart, cuz it lets u do pretty much anything reguardless of the outcome.




Have u tried running ce under windows emulation to see if it can scan SMALL segments of memory? Does it crash? simply not possible? I'm assuming when your emulating, mac will assign a virtual memory segment laid out like an intel system. We run ps2 games in emulator on pc and ce to hack out code magic codes, and if i'm not mistaken, ps2 core is same family as the old power macs....

Just feeding out ideas... nowe back to hacking planetside lol

hey, do a little more research b4 you post , you can do anything if you have the right programming knowledge, and plus if the admin gives your application root access i.e blesses it and then you are golden.
