Deletion

My theory is that one day somebody will be born without and appendix. Then he or she will live and have children. Then 50 years after said incident, more people will be born without them. then after an estimated 650 years, appendixes will be as common as an elongated tailbone.

It kinda seems like a lot of the posts here are just trying to get post count up.
But this is certainly a very interesting idea, really thought invoking. Kind of scary in a way though. As with all science, if it does come to be studied or attempted it would with out a doubt run into many conflicts with people(especially religious groups).

Think of it this way:
People saying by it is useless just means that you dont really need it.
For example if you remove it you won't die as oppised to your heart
where you die in a matter of seconds.

Your theory sounds interesting, an extra organ that can be used for other purposes..
I don't think they can like, re-program it, but i do think they can take it out and make potions/cremes/medication out of it.
It would be great, that way you could have medication that can only be good for you because it's from your own body!
Also, sometimes when a patient gets a limb-or organtransfusion, the body doesn't recognise the limb/organ, and starts attacking it, killing the patient.
Maybe later scientists will be able to extract the recognision-part from the appendix, and put it in the organ/limb!

Your recognition theory sounds great, I'm sure it would work. Although most people are trying to get post count up here (as stated by robert), I find this thread to be quite a success because we're discussing it.

Easier said then done. Gene therapy will not be a viable option for generations to come. It is easier to use stem cells. The "recognition" as you call it are simply protein markers on cells.
Also, funny how everyone ignores my previous post.

Also, I'm not sure how but I think the organs are split into two types.
One type being extremly needable and the other ones are removable.
The Appendix, Gullbladder, Testicuals, and Detrioxieod Glands fall under
that catagory.
