Some xp installers automatically install sata support. But it sounds like the HDD is failing and or dying.

Uh crap. I had some probably like this and I went around the BIOS and did something with RAID. I forgot what, but maybe you can look for that.

so i still cant get it but when i start my computer up it tries to boot into windows safe mode but fails wouldn't that mean that it can fin my hard drive?

If it "tries" to boot into safe mode, then your hard drive is probably fine, since it recognized Windows.

Do a repair install, or just reformat.

thats the problem when i use the windows cd it says it cant find the HDD

I still have the Manuel but i was looking around and in the bios and it finds it and i was going to use a linux live cd to grab stuff and it showed windows on my hard drive so its just the windows cd that cant find it

Did your build the system yourself or did you get a prebuilt?

If it's prebuild, provide the brand name for it.

I did not build it but it was custom built
