i havn't been able to find a CSE version that isn't password protected. someone repost it to rapidshare or something if you wactually have it.

(and i'm going to scan it on virustotal.com so don't even bother putting a trojan in it)

Yeah im sure packet editing is not illegal because you edit the data before it gets sent and after it gets received meaning you dont actually change anything on the remote pc just edit what was going to be sent in the first place and im sure editing data on a pc is not illegal .

In some cases would it not be alot easier to make a proxy though? All you would need a to change the games server ip via memory editing and throw together a fast winsock app and you could edit + send data that way .

it's not black and white if it's legal or not rareardevil.

first off, it's different depending on what country you live in. in the USA for instance, many things fall under the DMCA act, and memory editing and packet editing could probably be considered reverse engineering.

but even above that, there is often a license agreement, a contract that you agree to when you decide to use the game. almost all of them have clauses against editing the game or it's operation in any way, which can in most cases allow the game company to take action against you - sometimes civil lawsuit, and sometimes criminal. it depends on the laws in your own country, and the wording of the contract.

there isn't a simple yes or no answer to the question.

In some countries even that might not be illegal. Don't even try to answer part of the question in black & white. It's not possible. Criminal & civil contractual laws are different in every country.

I wish there was a sticky or rule against asking about the legality of stuff throughout the whole world. The laws and the court's interpretations of them vary greatly from country to country, even how they interact with other country's laws. So the country you are from, and the country in which the game's licensor is from need to be taken into account, not to mention I would not believe anything for factual information without having good attorney/lawyer/counsel have a thorough look at the situation.

And even then, it's still not a guaranteed 100% correct answer. Sheesh.

I already have that version. I was asking about WPE CSE. The only reason I don't have that yet is all of the .zips I've found so far are password protected.

it depends on what country the service's business is operated from, what country the servers are hosted in, and there's also contractual laws involved in the country the service's business is operated out of.

and knowing all of that information, it's most likely still up to the courts if you get a civil suit or criminal trial, so.... this is a great example of why people say say "of it's legal" or "oh it's illegal" are not thinking with a full deck.
