File -> New Task (Run...) -> type explorer.exe
That should work, unless the file does not exist. |
That's the same thing as Start > Run > Explorer.exe..
| moobs wrote: | | SaviourFamily wrote: | Start > Run > explorer.exe.
If it persists, pop your OS disk in and try to do a 'Repair' |
i would do this but the start menu doesnt show up. is the explorer.exe located in the in the Internet Explorer folder in the C drive?? |
It's in System32 folder. Try to repair it/do a chkdsk on your drive.
Edit: Oh wow. Should have searched before I posted. Thought it was in system32, but, proven below it's in %HOMEDRIVE%\windows |
He doesn't have a taskbar. |
Wow...woulda never thought of that until I tried to do it myself. In that case..ctrl+alt+del and select File > New Task (Run), just like superweapons said.
Thanks Xenophobe for catching me on that.

Thats why they told him to use taskmanager and press File-> new task
what that does is open up run and with run he can type explorer.exe

They aren't the same thing, (this is what I think it does, I don't use system restore) system restore saves some of the important Windows files and some of your documents in an allotted part of your hard drive (am I right); a reboot is a reboot, you are restarting your computer, nothing is saved, whereas system restore saves some files when you need to activate it.
As for the problem (main problem, the point of this discussion), you (or your computer) might have deleted the start-up script for explorer.exe.

they're about the same thing but what im gonna do is pop in the computer CD with all the files and stuff and just restore all the original files that came with the computer when we first bought it.
and on my computer theres a Full Systen Restore (destructive), which is like rebooting your whole computer deleting everything. theres a Full System Restore (with Backup), which is like rebooting your whole computer but saving the files thats already on your computer. and theres also a Non-Destructive System Restore, which is basically just installing all the original programs that came with the computer..

I think maybe you have to many files/software onto your Computer, maybe it can't hold all of the storage...
Just a thought

Kill the exe pal, you will lose your desktop.

my desktop wont show or anything. the folders, programs, and other stuff, it just wont show on my desktop, oh yea including the start bar and menu it wont show up either. and when it does show up it keeps coming on and then turning off and it lags my computer. does anyone know the problem?? or can anyone help me?? |
Follow instructions:
1. Put your WinXP CD in your drive tray.
2. Go to Start|Run and type in "sfc.exe /scannow" (without the quotes). The system filechecker will run and replace any damaged system files.
sfc.exe /scannow <-- There is a space behind exe.
If you cant get to run because the menu is gone again.
1. Ctrl+alt+del
2. File > New Task(Run...)
3. sfc.exe /scannow
This will repair the system files that have been damaged. Then after it is done you need to scan your pc for spy/adware.

explorer.exe does run but it keeps disappearing and appearing after every 10 seconds or so, and it lags everytime it does that.

How do you know?
and a keylogger tracks what you're typing it doesn't kill explorer.exe

I know that. But.. Let me quote him.

He thought it was in the actual Internet Explorer folder. Not in C:\Windows.

Maybe there's a virus on your computer that keeps on killing the process of "explorer.exe" =O
and um...
"iexplore.exe" is the process of Internet explorer.
