IDE: Code::Blocks

Just keep the VS 2005 compiler. Code::Blocks will automatically configure it for you if you select is as your compiler when making a project. Razz

Edit: Make sure you get the nightly build off their forums.

Mmkay. I only started VB because of my interest in flash, now I regret it... Razz But at least I can still do some C++, and easily Pascal/Delphi.

a lot of code built in the msvc 6 era does not compile on 2005; mostly has to do with inline assembly but it gets so frustrating that you install msvc 6 to compile this one library and decide to use it since it's so much lighter, has less bullshit 'wizards', SxS issues etc.

VB is a good beginners language. Good for making trainers and getting the feel of what its like to be a programmer. Once you get more advanced in it, more on to something more complicated like C or C++.

VB is the worst possible language for a newbie to learn, it ruins their mind. The best language to start off learning is C, then go to ASM.

learn brainfuck to start with and see what ruins your mind more

Brainfuck uses pointers/memory access, so it is even more of a programming language than VB is. Razz

dev C++ is easy to use, gives you a lot more functions to chose from, and it is free!
