The other day I was bored, and thought about something to do. I read xkcd's article about ROBOT9000, and thought it was an interesting concept and great way to force people to create discussions without the "lol" or the "yeah" every now and then, which one might say is like the attitude you should adopt in General Discussions.
So after a few hours of coding, and then a few hours of optimizing (the bot is still imperfect, it's in constant update), a small bot came out of the evil corners of my laptop with one intention : to rule mankind!
So far, tests have been conclusive (small stress tests have also been applied, the bot doesn't seem too buggy), and so far people have slowly adopted a better way of speaking, such as elaborating on things instead of simply agreeing. Things are looking great so far, and I'd like to take the bot to the next level to see what would happen : a real irc channel with a pretty large amount of users (30 would be a nice start!), that'd have to have intelligent conversations with pure strangers instead of the random useless conversations one would normally have on the internet.
The message database was initialized at nothing, and has been gradually growing. Some small common phrases like 'roflmao' might still work, but that'll quickly be filled when the user count increases.
The bot itself follows several rules dictated by xkcd, and a few of my own:
- You are only allowed to say sentences that had never been said before, ever, or you will be muted.
- The time you get muted for is 4 ^ n seconds where n is the number of times you've been muted before + 1 (So the first time you say something unoriginal, you'll be muted 4 seconds, then 16, and so on), this allows a few acceptable errors which would then become lengthy the more you're unoriginal.
- Your mute count will decrease by 1, 6 hours after you get muted, no matter what. This is to ensure people can still 'accidently' say something and not be muted for a long period. This is also referred to as mute decay.
- Any mute bypassing will result in human punishment (a ban that can last any amount of time, depends on the channel moderator). This inlcudes things such as : "lololol" to avoid getting muted for "lol", "lol 3543", etc.
- The channel is for serious discussions, if you simply want to test the system, join the sandbox channel, which will be listed below.
I think that's all I have to say for now, the irc details are :
Server : irc.p2p-network.net
Official R9K Channel : #ROBOT9000
Sandbox channel : #R9K-Sandbox
In mirc : /server irc.p2p-network.net -j #ROBOT9000
Don't forget to pass by #cef while you're at it! (Beware, random chats in store if you do!)

| Wow, nice work. I might have to get mIRC or something, just for this. Sounds great. Keep it up. Another thing you might want to look into is a proper grammar bot. On sat dont low ting liek dis, and split it into categories, say one for Germans, one for Americans (Grammar here sucks) , and others for Asians, etc. Heck, if you really want to, make a OCD spelling bot. That would be interesting if every person on the internet didn't misspell a single word.

A spelling bot would be a lot more work, and would limit chats a lot, not to mention people that don't have english as their main language (such as me) that would be detected all the time. ROBOT9000 is nice because it forces people to be innovative and not repeat the same things all the time, whereas a grammar bot would be too strict.
I might look into it if I ever get bored again!

Indeed, and as this channel grows, there will only be more and more discussion with more fun as people slowly get picked off for using the same string of words. :D
I'm looking forward to seeing anyone and everyone in the channel for some actual talk.

What I mean by a spelling bot, is like the same as the proper grammar bot, make it know multiple languages and it will detect when someone speaks a different language to it won't mute them for it. Or make one for American, some for other languages. Break it into categories

Everyone fill his database with a shit load of bytes. When the lookup table gets big, it will take a while to kick you.

Sorry for the bot downtime guys, but I've been doing a lot of shit with windows (and stayed up most of the night fixing stuff), the bot should be back up soon.
@sponge: Bring it on!
