Before I give my opinion, I want you to answer two questions. At what resolution you are playing? Are you planning on overclocking your processor by a lot?

Well... You really doesn't need Core 2 Extreme if you're not going to overclock it alot. And at 1440x???? ATI cards give better FPS.

That's absolutely not true. It may be the case on some games, but most high demanding video games will perform better on an Nvidia video card.

Anyway, don't go with SLI, it's pointless when you are playing on such low resolution.

Erm... Yes it is XD
ATI works with quantity while NVIDIA works with quality. If you set High then NVIDIA will always give you high at whatever resolutions, but if you set High for ATI, it will automatically adjust the graphic quality so to maintain the FPS.

... I'm not going to argue with you, go read some reviews, you'll see that Nvidia video card perform better then ATI at whatever resolution.

Get a single 8800GT or wait till the 9 series. 8600 in SLI is a joke.

You should get a single 8800GT, two 8600s in SLI are slower than one 8800GT, and you might be able to save some money too.

he has amd cpu and ati gfx.

I doubt his motherboard will support nVidia's SLI... Maybe atk's crossfire.

It's an nForce board, it can support SLI (I think, 1x PCIe x16, 1x PCIe x4). But you'll probably get more performance from just one card rather than 2.

For b), which model is it? The 512MB or 320/640MB version.

I would go with b) if it is the 512MB version, it isn't, then c). If I had a free choice, I would wait a while for newer graphics card (3 weeks left to wait).
