Cheat Engine

Being a newbie, I read through the tutorial and I understood it pretty well. I have a game that changes the address either on restarting or sometimes during gameplay so the "Chapter 6: Tutorial 4" is what I found to be helpful. I can find the address and I go through the motions of finding the address and hitting the "Find out what writes to this address", but when I go back to the game to make it change the game will crash every time.

Any thoughts about what I can do to get around that?

Wow...thanks man...it helped me a lot..but what should i do when i try to find a code that when i type it to search in HEX doesnt show anything?

And i havea problem that would be in tuto 5...it showsa lots with codes and the count goes up like crazy

I've walked through this tutorial until tutorial 6, it's a nice and well explained tutorial, nice work!

But in chapter 8 tutorial 6, I've gotten to this part:

Now, go to the cheat engine tutorial and click "Change Pointer". Notice, the old address value will go to 0. Now, go back to the pointer scanner and click "Pointer Scanner" tab at the top. You will get a couple of options. Select rescan pointer. Put in the new address you have found(The one in the main CE window that does NOT have the value of 0). You should come up with 1 thing and only 1 thing. That's good!(If it ask you to overwrite the save, press yes)

The problem is that I don't have a new address with no value of 0, am I doing something wrong?
I've tried to rescan but I don't have a value to enter, I'll post a sceenshot of this later.




I have made a screenshot about this, in the screenshot you can see that in the left half of the screen there is your tutorial, and to the right my CE with tutorial and scan results.
So far I've found the first address, used pointer scan and got the results as you can see, the next step is where I'm stuck

I was stuck on the same thing... once you change the pointer, go back put the new value in from the box, scan for it, go back to the pointer scanner, go to the menu "pointer scanner > rescan memory" then put in the new hex location, scan and you should get only 1 result.

Thanks, after watching a video of the tutorial I found out what I was doing wrong, I didn't scan for the value that changed in the CE tutorial, ah well I've learned something new again.

I'm currently on step 6 of the tutorial and I'm confused. I'm at the point where I add the address manually. OK. I click on pointer. The address box becomes inaccessible. Where do I put in the address?

I'm having trouble translating the steps from Chapter 7: Tutorial 5 to an actual game. In this case, it's Torchlight II.

I find the address I'm looking for and click on "Find out what writes to this address" which brings up a little blank window. So I return to the game and change the value. But as soon as I do that the game crashes!

How can I prevent the game from crashing when it changes the value?

I'm more interested in finding the instruction code that alters the random seed that generates the random amount of health each time the button is pressed.

This tutorial is very helpful.. I am still very new, and inexperienced.. In fact I don't claim I know anything.. Yet.. I am still struggle for basic concepts of how to know when to apply what method, knowing there are more than one solution to each problem doesn't make me feel any better to not even being able to fix it one way :/
It is a learning process that I am enjoying.. You just wait until I can form a complete sentence out of one of the problems I have.. I am off to post more thanks to where I obtained this desire.
