You're better off trying to compile a new executable that uses the old files containing the sprites with a function to dump the desired data. |
what sort of function do I need to 'dump the desired data'?

| The sprites are storied in a manner inaccessible to you, or you wouldn't be going through this sort of bother. The game can access and represent them in some standardized format, else, you would not be able to enjoy their spriteness. Since you have the source code, add a function that will convert / save the sprites into a format you're comfortable with.

I have the source code of the open source version with all the sprites blurred, but I have the .exe of the origional with the correct sprites.
