There was a game made a while ago called RoPW written in Game Maker language. He shut down the game about a year or two ago, but released an open source for the public to learn from. He blurred all the sprites so people couldn't steal them. I still own the original version, and I was trying to inject a code so that it would retrieve all the sprites. I am trying to replace this code:

Quote:
global.lg = 1global.lg1 = 1

Which I found in the open source, with this code:

Quote:
execute_file("a.txt")

It is supposed to make the login button open up the a.txt file instead. Don't worry, the a.txt file retrieves all the sprites correctly. But here's the problem. When I search global.lg = 1global.lg1 = 1 in the text search, it says 0 results found. Wtf?

Go on the game maker forums, I heard there is a program that someone posted that you can get all the sprites/music/etc off of the (I think .exe or GM6).

Wouldn't the mods lock such a topic? Shocked

EDIT- and due to game maker's crappy search restrictions, I don't know what I would search for.

Nah, I think its for when your files get corrupted, I used to work with GM myself, and still do once in a good while.

'aight.
Doesn't really matter if its GM or not, I just want to know why CE isn't picking up the string, and I KNOW there is a string there.

I think I know why, you`re searching the stuff in CE right? well CE only picks up values (like numbers), that and text searches, did you try searching under 'Text'?

Yeah, I tried to search under text.
It just says 0 results found either way.

Yeah because the function is not going to be in text where you can plainly see it. Only stuff like names of characters and things maybe.

The rest is encrypted from compilation or obfuscated.

Now if you find out what that string is in bytes you can do a byte search and maybe find it. Then alter the bytes.

But why not try using a hex editor?

Hex Workshop is a well known one.
Then try to look for the bytes of that instruction.

Cheat Engine is a memory editor -- compiled code, let alone executing code, does not maintain the syntax / identifiers used in high level languags.

You're better off trying to compile a new executable that uses the old files containing the sprites with a function to dump the desired data.
