Hi there,
I have a small project for CE and am in a bit of a pickle because the older versions I've used don't display properly on my current monitor while the latest from git silently crashes when attached to some software that works with CE 6.x and hasn't been updated since I compiled it way back then.
Updating to the latest version seems like a good thing to do before troubleshooting, but the git doesn't seem to have been updated in almost three years. The main page seems to offer 7.6, but IIRC there is a bunch of PUP in the installer. The Patreon version seems to have some DRM that wants to link itself to other accounts in a way that makes me uncomfortable.
Is CE now basically closed source with no DRM/PUP-free options? Not trying to make waves, just haven't been around in half a decade and feel like I might be missing something.

only the installer checks if you're an active patron and not a free member, or someone who got it from kemono party or similar, after that there's no DRM (it only reads the monthly and total contribution amount. If total is 20+ then it allows it even if not active)
And the PUP is overrated, as long as you click decline you're fine. But if you are worried, just get a virtual machine, install CE on there, and then copy the install folder to your main system
The sourcecode might come back someday, but for now I'm just too annoyed with certain groups who just sell modified CE binaries using sleazy advertising methods _________________

Thank you for the quick reply. The fact that you've patiently fielded the constant, repetitive questions for all these years is even more amazing than the powerful software you've manifested into reality.
For now, I was able to get the last public source to stop insta-crashing by reverting to an old platform SDK for the C and .net stuff. I don't remember when I last compiled, but I probably just assumed that because it compiled without error it would be fine and forgot all about it without ever really testing. But when I do upgrade, I will revisit and follow your sage advice.
Cheers! _________________
