Recently, I found that my SSD was showing red with less than 100GB of remaining capacity. Upon using software to investigate, I discovered that the CE folder had generated three extremely large files. What are these files? Why are they being generated?

Would I need to regularly spend time checking if this folder has junk files and then manually delete them?

Those are scan results. Some scans, like searching for a value between 0 and 100 using the "All" value type, could lead to files over 10x bigger than the total size of the target's virtual memory space.

They get cleaned up when you press "New scan", but not when CE is closed it seems... I might consider that a bug, but maybe it's useful if you accidentally closed CE and the scan you were doing was important.
CE will automatically delete everything older than 2 days. If you want to do that more frequently, it should be safe to delete everything within "Temp/Cheat Engine" while CE is closed. Look online and I'm sure you'll find information regarding how to do this automatically.

If you have a better place to store temporary scan files, set it in "Edit -> Settings -> Scan Settings -> Don't store the temporary scanfiles in the windows tempdir"

This works:
  1. Open CE
  2. Temporary directory `Temp/Cheat Engine/{...}` is created, nothing inside
  3. Close CE
  4. Temporary directory is deleted

This does not work:
  1. Open CE & CE Tutorial
  2. Temporary directory is created
  3. Attach to tutorial
  4. First scan for 4-byte value "0"
  5. Files ADDRESSES.FIRST, ADDRESSES.TMP, MEMORY.FIRST, MEMORY.TMP are created
  6. Close CE
  7. The file ADDRESSES.FIRST is deleted, but the other 3 are still there

CE deletes old files correctly.

I'm running CE on Linux through Wine, so this is probably a Wine bug if it works fine for you.
