If I have a file and its hash, can I recreate hashing algorithm that was used for this file? I have multiple files (about 7) and I have their hashes. Can I use them to recreate their hashing method? Is there a created tool for this?
You can't reverse a hash into the file it was created from. That's literally the main point of hashing algorithms.
You can batch apply a lot of hashing algorithms onto a file and compare them against the valid hash to find the hashing algorithm. I don't know of any tools to do that automatically (TBF I haven't looked)
If everything is local, you can debug a process that verifies the hash and reverse engineer your way to the hashing algorithm. Of course this would require a lot of knowledge of both assembly and hashing algorithms. _________________
I don't know where I'm going, but I'll figure it out when I get there.
