You need 11 month to get what you have paid in the mining machine, that's a general thing whether you are mining with antminer or GPU.
You can do like me, I buy bitcoin with low price and wait until it gets high the sell it.
I agree with you on the last statement, one has million question about this currency.

oh i did end up getting into it slightly later on, like before it ever peaked at $1000, ended up making a couple 100, but then stopped because mining with gpu stopped being profitable and then specialized hardware started coming out
