On the surface it's an animated comedy series about a has-been television show star who is also a horse in a world where people and animals are basically equals, and animals are more human-like and can talk, but still retain certain animal attributes.
As you get into the series, it touches on a lot of dark topics from depression, to drug use, and the general effects Hollywood has on the people who live in it. Bojack, despite having fame and fortune, is just drifting through his life with general disregard for other people, and has a huge ego while at the same time thinking himself worthless.
It's not always dark though and is a genuinely funny and occasionally thought provoking show. It takes a little build up, so don't write it off right away, but it also definitely isn't for everyone. I'm just a big fan.

I dunno, Will Arnett, Alison Brie, Aaron Paul, pretty high budget voice actors. Paul McCartney and Daniel Radcliffe even make guest appearances. Animation quality always seemed alright to me, might just be a bad picture.

Yeah just the picture or the style I guess. I'll watch some eps when I get time I'm going to bed now tho.
