so i'm currently at a motel. after my managers meeting for sober living i went back to studying. around 8:30 pm i went to the store across the street to buy an energy drink so i could study more efficiently. upon returning about ~3 mins later i was breathalyzed as all residents are. i blew a 0.02 which went down to a 0.01 but stayed at .01 for the past hour.
not sure why i am blowing this number. but i told the other manager feel free to let the directors know (because they didn't know what to do in this situation), take a sample of my urine and hold onto it and see if we can get it lab tested. manager lets the directors know (our bosses).
long story short, one of the directors comes to my room as i'm studying and kicks me out for "drinking." he tried getting me to admit to drinking. he smelled my breath no alcohol. he said that smoking cigarettes and drinking a rockstar would mask the smell, supposedly. he then said that he knows that i drank and that i'm lying. and he believes i went to the store, bought a beer, chugged it down in a few minutes, and came back to the house knowing i would have to breathalyze. i asked him if that made sense. he said it's possible.
now, i completely understand where he is coming from. what i don't understand is why i'm blowing numbers when i didn't drink. literally all i had today was ~1 gallon of water, a protein shake of almond/coconut milk + spirutein chocolate whey protein, and a jimmy johns roast beef sandwich, a cup of lemonade, followed by a "rockstar pure zero - zero calorie, zero sugar." i'm not upset with his decision because if i were in his position i would assume the same. however, it is upsetting to be accused of something you did not do. it's also upsetting that if i cannot clear my name and prove i did not drink, (1) i lose my job as a house manager which includes free rent, (2) rumors will spread and everyone will be convinced that i drank, (3) i am now homeless.
tomorrow after school i am meeting with the other director to discuss the matter with him. i've been doing some research on urine tests for alcohol and pricing. i can't see any reason that my insurance would pay for it. and there's no way the company i work for will especially when they assume it's going to test positive for alcohol. the only way to clear my name is to pay to have a lab test done.
quite frustrating... it is well known that a rockstar will show a false positive on a breathalyzer because it contains the chemical (as is listed on the ingredients) "erythritol" also known as a sugar alcohol.
i'll update you guys tomorrow on my fate.

| Any chance you use some kind of mouthwash? They contain a small amount of the stuff.

no, we're not allowed to have any mouth wash, hand sanitizer, or cologne that contains alcohol for this exact reason.

unfortunately the fact that i didn't drink does not seem to matter. all that matters is the breathalyzer registered a number other than 0.00
i'm just stressing on my living situation after tonight. i literally have nowhere to go and i used the last of my money for this room (all my cash is in my moms bank account).
i also for the first time purchased their zero calorie zero sugar rockstar which contains 1 gram of erythritol. whereas the regular rockstars have a different type of sugar. and normally i'd drink the regular rockstar but because i'm trying not to drink soda or energy drinks with tons of caffeine/sugar i opted for this one.
MIGHT be able to stay at my ex girlfriends parents house temporarily...

| I feel like if you brought the can in, explained the sugar alcohol, and how it would be impossible for your blood to have such little alcohol if you actually drank anything they should let you stay, but they could just be assholes with zero tolerance policy.

well i was familiar with the fact that rockstars can cause false positives. but i didn't understand the science behind it. the director said "i just drank a rockstar, why am i am blowing 0.00?"
honestly i was not prepared for this and so shocked but what was happened. it wasn't until after that fact that i began doing my research to figure out what happened. that is when i saw the chemical erythritol which sounded like enthonol so i googled it and found out what it was. i will be bringing the can with me tomorrow after school when i speak with the other director. they have a very big zero tolerance policy about drinking/using drugs (which is why i am at a motel right now).
and you have to understand, these guys have been doing this for 4-5 years. as an addict/alcoholic, your word has no value. they've heard so many lies from people who said they didn't use or didn't drink when they did. like i said, if i was in his position, i would have assumed i drank. so it's a really tough situation and very difficult to prove i didn't drink. i will be going in there tomorrow with the rockstar can. hope all goes well.

yep I was just going to say was it a absolute zero or or diet. I noticed the monster absolute zero tastes almost the same as the regular. I would try to take legal action if possible seeing as they just put you at financial risk kicking you out. I would say this energy drink could be the only culprit... That's fucking bullshit though they should know anyone abusing would be at least a .04 or something... plus they should know you wouldn't be fucking around at this point idk...seems like the company fucked you over who made the drink.

EDIT:
so as i may have mentioned i've completely altered the way i eat. in fact, i've lost 15 lbs in 4 weeks. i have been eating about ~700-1000 calories a day, drinking a protein shake every day and eating just vegetables and fruits. so very little calories, very little carbohydrates, and mainly protein from the whey protein powder and protein from vegetables.
this article says this could result in the exact results i got on my breathalyzer.
| Quote: | | A VLCD diet (very-low-calorie diet, a protein-sparing modified fast) contains mainly protein along with a small amount of carbohydrate and very few calories, usually fewer than 1000 per day. Just about anyone going on one of these diets will soon be in producing ketone bodies at a pretty high rate. |
| Quote: | | During dieting, the man discovered that an alcohol ignition interlock device, installed in an official company car, indicated that he had consumed alcohol and the vehicle failed to start. This was confusing because the man was a life-long teetotaller and was therefore both surprised and upset by the result. As he had been supervising private aviation he had access to a second breath-alcohol analyzer, which indicated a simultaneous BAC ranging from 0.01 to 0.02 g/100 ml. |

Hopefully they will understand dude and know it can happen. I would bring these sources in with you.
What did you think of the zero? I was very surprised because I always hate diet flavor in drinks, but the energy compound covers it up really well making it taste almost like a sweet malt liquor lmao

trust me, i am doing my research now so that i can show this to them when i meet tomorrow after school.

trust me, i am doing my research now so that i can show this to them when i meet tomorrow after school. | I would also be concerned about your body image...to me it seems like you should be either bulking and getting more lean mass or staying the same weight and exercising if you wanted to stay fit. That kind of crash diet seems like something someone who is 300 lbs would go on... I understand wanting to eat healthier, but get some of that cash from your mom for some produce you got years of unhealthy eating to make up for bruh.
I quit drinking energy drinks when I quit weed because it causes me anxiety...but got 3 absolute zero monsters in the fridge that I'll probably never drink. Something about monsters taste is kind of like alcohol that's why it probably grew on me, but I liked NOS the most at first.

the plan was to lose the fat first. i weighed 105 lbs a year ago when i came in. but i was also smoking meth for a few months at that point. i went up to 126 lbs 12 months later unhappy with how my body looked as a direct result of drinking soda and energy drinks daily, frozen meals and fast food for all my meals.
the first two weeks i tracked my calories of 1400-1500 in strictly fruits vegetables almond milk almonds, walnuts and whey protein powder. i went from 126-115 lbs. over the next two weeks i stopped tracking how much i was eating but i was still mentally conscious of what i was taking in. about 400-500 from one meal a day around 5-6 p.m., a banana or apple and protein shake for lunch around noon.
i figured the meth usually makes a 5 lb difference and my average weight is 110 lbs. so i decided to go back down to 110 lbs. i've now started working out as of a couple weeks ago. and have so far gained 4 lbs in muscle as i've been eating the same amount as when i was losing weight.
my biceps are noticably bigger, when i flex my abs you can start to see an outline, my endurance has improved, and through stretching my flexibility and posture have greatly improved. so the goal now is to get back to 120 lbs with that 10 lbs being in muscle.
i've been doing an hour of skateboarding, followed by another hour of push ups, dips, jumping jacks and crunches. end that with a 5-10 minute jog.
i've never felt this good physically or mentally in my life.

Keep it up and best of luck with that asshole trying to get you kicked out...sounds like someone who shouldn't be in his shoes.

no, not true. i wouldn't say he's being an asshole. he's simply doing his job. it's a tough decision and with his knowledge (or lack of knowledge) the evidence points to drinking being the most likely cause. my reason for triggering the breathalyzer is a very rare and specific cause that he's probably never heard of or come across. i don't blame him.
thankfully, the other director is huge on diet and huge on working out and has tons of information on these two topics spewing out his butthole. so when i show him this article along with the fact that he knows how i've changed my diet and knows how much weight i've lost because we've been talking about it lately. he's more likely to believe i didn't drink.
