I know many here are substance users to varying degrees. I personally have been a relatively dedicated polydrug user for some time now. Despite the array of AMAZING experiences I have derived from powerful drugs, there has always been one that I believe is a keeper in my arsenal. Kratom.

Personally I have never been a big fan of marijuana due to laziness, social anxiety, and complacency associated with it. So I went on a little search for something softer and casual I can use similar to how many people use marijuana. Not something to get FUCKED off of, just something to spruce up my day a little. Here's a little summary of what kratom is and my experiences with it.

Kratom is a psychoactive plant with effects very comparable to softer opiates like hydrocodone and oxycodone. Hardcore opiate users (especially those with a lasting tolerance) would dismiss kratom as a poor-man's opiate. However, I personally have found kratom to possess far more pleasant and lucid effects than say hydrocodone. To me, it can be used as the equivalent of a mixed drink after coming home from work to wind down. However, that's not to say that kratom can't get you fucked. It most definitely can.

Here is a few specifics about its effects. Kratom is unique in that the effects of smaller dosages are very noticeably different than higher doses. This is due to the presence of a variety of psychoactive alkaloids.
In lower doses, kratom presents itself more as an uplifting and somewhat stimulating yet simultaneously relaxing experience. You may find yourself being more friendly with people, enjoying music more, and appreciating smaller things in life. I have read some reports where the author says that certain strains can help them study, but I have never personally used kratom for enhancement of focus, as I do find it slightly inebriating. In the job I worked at, being inebriated could be a liability.

In higher doses, kratom brings relief of pain, as well as quite a notable "nod." However, especially with red strains after you cross a certain threshold you can become pretty dizzy, and due to the amount of plant material you have to consume you may also become nauseous. However, it can be quite the euphoric and calming experience if you are careful with your doses.

Now a brief summary of kratom vs. typical opiates. Compared to typical opiates, physical and psychological dependency presents itself at a much slower rate. If one were to develop a habit, withdrawals are hardly comparable at all to a heavy hydrocodone, oxycodone, or heroin habit. I personally have used kratom once or twice daily for over two weeks, maybe three (with a day or two break per week here or there) and experienced almost no withdrawal symptoms. The worst I would experience are some minor cravings and some moodiness. The symptoms resolved in a matter of days.
Kratom is also pretty difficult to overdose on compared to typical opiates due to the matter in which it must be consumed and the potency of its psychoactive alkaloids.

Now, the downsides. It tastes pretty bad and you have to take at least 1 or 2 grams of ground up plant material to get a worthwhile effect. For some this can cause a bit of nausea, however I tend not to get any bad nausea unless I slam 4 grams in one chug. Kratom is most potent when taken on an empty stomach. It seems to vary from person to person if a little bit of food beforehand helps with any possible nausea. Personally, if I have a bit of an upset stomach, I eat a small snack or meal 30 minutes to an hour after the effects have kicked in right. I have noticed that eating after a certain amount of time can help potentiate the effects a little bit. I should also mention that too much kratom can make you less patient or on edge.

Strain information.
-Red vein strains are more sedating, euphoric, relaxing, and have the most painkilling effects. Give you a sense of optimism.
-White vein strains are more stimulating and contribute to a positive mood. They can help combat fatigue.
-Green vein strains are a balance between the two. Can perk you up without putting you on edge. You can mix them with red or white strains to help combat some of the side effects of either strain, such as edginess with whites or drowsiness with reds.
Regardless of which of the three your kratom is, no two red strains are exactly the same. Each specific strain has a different concentration of alkaloids, hence changing the effects.

I have experimented with a few creative ways to combat the bad taste.

• Blending it with chocolate milk (or, my favorite, chocolate coconut milk since coconut milk is thicker). This is easiest way to do it for me. Stirring with a fork works but you really got to stir it and mix it good or you get chunks in your mouth. Nasty. I would even say the kratom taste compliments the flavor in a strange way! 8 ounces to 1 cup of liquid per 3.5 grams of powder is typically an acceptable ratio to me.
  
• Mixing it up real good with vanilla ice cream. You still taste the kratom a bit but the thickness of the ice cream and sweet flavor helps mask the grittiness and bitterness. This is probably the most delicious way to take it but takes a bit of time to mix it up real good.
  
• Mixing it with yogurt or applesauce. This one can be pretty nasty but helps with the texture. You would have to mix 3.5 grams in two to three cups of your yogurt or applesauce, depending on the flavor.
  
• Capping it out. Time consuming as fuck and takes more time to kick in.
  
• Making a tea. I like to bring water with lemon juice to below simmering and let it sit for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Then, I brew some tea in the water and strain the tea leaves (I use loose leaf for this). It still works if you strain the powder but I prefer to leave it in for maximum potency. Very time consuming.

I'm fucking bored out of my mind tonight and just so happen to be on a bit of kratom. I have absolutely no idea why I'm posting this here of all places.

So, as for the topic's subject. Has anybody here given it a fair chance? What did you think of it? If not are you interested? I personally don't have much of a particular interest in opiates, but kratom definitely takes the cake for me.

never tried becayse no interest due to what i was told was an underwhelming and lackluster high in comparison to hard drugs. my understanding from opiate addicts which it is most commonly related to, is that its strength is on par with codeine or a weak vicodin 'high'

15mg of oxys considered shit and a waste. honestly not much different than 20mg of hydro. this determination was not made because of tolerance because it was nonexistant at that time but because there are so much better and stronger opiate highs like her'on oxymorphone hydromorphone.
