i am actually shocked he got second. For the longest time it was trump, cruz, and rubio.

I'm not. Kasich put all his eggs in one basket--New Hampshire. He also was endorsed by the New York Times, and many people in the Boston media (most of New Hampshire gets Boston local media TV stations.)
New Hampshire doesn't have as many Christians, so Ben Carson and Ted Cruz did very poorly by nature.
Rubio had set himself back in the last debate. Christie made Rubio look like a fool in that debate, and that really reflected in the results tonight.
