you do not need a religion to have a moral compass.
in fact atheists may have many of the same axioms that people of faith have.
because that's exactly what people of faith have done; based their moral compasses. except the people of faith's axioms are prescribed in a book.
the book says that the book is unnecessary and carved into every person's heart; ergo even an atheist can shine as brightly morally and righteously as a christian.
atheists may base their moral compass off of basic human empathy.
the part of empathy in the brain is lacking in a psychopath; someone who lacks empathy and remorse. these are the types of people that serial killers tend to be (note that i didn't say these are the types of people that become serial killers),
with that idea in mind, it is obvious to see how an atheist can adapt perfectly fine without abrahamic idea of god.

But what about a moral BAROMETER? This is something different.

In regards to moneys/humans, dogs evolved from wolves, and we still have wolves.
We didn't "evolve from monkeys" either though the guy is just retarded. We have a common ancestor with monkeys. That's not the same thing.
Wasn't it a pretty monkey-like ancestor though? I always assumed people were arguing against the idea that we came from a more ape-like creature rather than the idea of tree-swingy types.

What does that even mean though? Just because to a random person it looks a bit monkey-ish that doesn't mean it is a monkey. It just invalidates the argument where they say WELL THERE ARE STILL MONKEYS because there are not any left of what we evolved from.
