"Former US federal agent investigating Silk Road admits he stole $820000 in bitcoins"

"Shaun Bridges, a former US Secret Service agent who was investigating the online drug marketplace Silk Road has admitted the charges of obstruction of justice as well as money laundering."

"According to the US Department of Justice (DoJ), Bridges admitted that as a part of his criminal investigation he was granted the rights to administrator account on Silk Road which he misused by resetting the passwords and even lifted around 20,000 Bitcoin from numerous wallets on the service and deposited them in his own wallet. Ultimately, he sold off the stolen Bitcoin on the Mt Gox exchange [dumbass] in between March to May 2013 for a whooping figure of $820,000 in cash."

Well, better have someone use them than having them frozen for ever.

Bitcoin is more valuable than most people think, simply because of novelty and it will gain value over time as it has because of human nature to attach to things. I mean, why else do you think U.S. gov officials have tried to steal BTC? Ethereum is the next true digital currency platform however.

Bitcoin is revolutionary, but it is not the revolution. It's merely a start. Bitcoin may fail, but cryptocurrencies are the future, and they will be forever.

Since it's not backed by anything it looks more like just a tool nowdays rather than a full currency. Buy btc, do a transaction then exchange it for w.e real currency there is. At least in my personal opinion.

But aside from that(referring to the bolded text in your quote):
The goverment wasn't the one stealing btc, it was just a guy doing it for his own benefit. It wasn't a government movement by it's self but instead just a single person movement done by a some guy who happened to have access. If it was the government then how come this guy is getting thrown off to jail? See the title?, if yoou read:

deposited them in his own wallet

Also, why would u.s. gov worry about stealing 800k in btc lol?

More of a platform for trading cpu power than a currency by it self. But yeah, why not.
Let's see what bitcoin turns out to be in the years to come : D

A government agent is still part of the government.
