I am having a lot of trouble getting a base address for byte type. I followed different tutorials and they were very clear but the results I get are garbage. I run into a value with no offset going manual and I either get all bad pointers or no pointers from a scan. I managed to bring the list in the scan down to under 40 but none of those were good I also broadened the results and narrowed them down from a much larger pool with the same results.
I am convinced I am doing this wrong and that there is another way to find the address for byte type some other way.
What is the address good for? I think it isn't static, but did you try the pointer scan option? Because manually hunting down pointer chains is always a difficult thing ...
If you did use the automated pointer scan, to what level did you follow the pointers? 2? 3? 5?
The values I need are small in the game. Under 1000. As an example of something the mp in shovel knight would work. It has a maximum value of 100 normally in the game. If you scan for it using all types when you find it the type is byte. I am guessing that since it comes back as a byte cheat engine has properly determined the type right?
Anyways I find the mp and it is byte type and then I try to find the base address using manual and scanner methods and just cannot seem to find anything.
Should I be doing this differently? I am new to this is it possible there is no base address and that I need to be looking for or doing something else? Basically I just need to know if I am on the right track or need to be attacking this differently and if I should what I should be doing. I don't necessarily need a step by step on what to do next just a point in the right direction.
